Modern Construction Technology on Display at National Building Museum

In addition to being the most eco-friendly and energy efficient building material available, the panels were chosen to demonstrate the technology used in the Vail Grant Residence by architects Pugh + Scarpa, which will be included in the show. The exhibition will be in first-floor galleries, and will be on view from June 19, 2004 to January 23, 2005.

The exhibition will present nearly 30 very recent or current architectural projects that use concrete in exciting ways. Complementing the examination of these architectural achievements will be a variety of stations describing the technology of concrete that makes them possible. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about concrete’s fascinating scientific properties, unusual finishing techniques, and advanced hybrid versions of the material.

The featured works in Liquid Stone will be divided into several categories:

“Structure,” “Surface,” and “Sculptural Form.” The Green Sandwich Panels(TM) will be referenced in the “Sculptural Form” section in conjunction with the Vail Grant Residence and will also be on display as a part of the technology station located in the “Structure” section of the exhibit. This section will include projects such as the Longitudinal House(s), by Vincent James Associates Architects, a connected pair of vacation houses for twin brothers in which the individual spaces are defined by an undulating ribbon of concrete, the Torre Agbar in Barcelona, designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, a skyscraper whose skin is conceived as a built version of a pixilated digital image, with an irregular grid of concrete panels forming unexpected geometrical shapes and a new bridge by Lord Norman Foster, which spans a broad and deep valley with remarkably slender concrete structural elements — some of its svelte piers are taller than the Eiffel Tower.

Green Sandwich Panels(TM) are engineered components noted for their exceptional strength, superior insulation, predictable uniformity and labor savings features. GST panels are more energy efficient than wood framing and SIPs. The panels provide an R-40 insulating performance and sound co-efficient protection of STC 50+. GST panels are pest, mold and termite resistant, and offer exceptionally high impact resistance against environmental extremities including hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, tornado projectiles, and even bullets. The panels are seismic rated for 8.0+ earthquakes and can withstand 200 MPH winds.

Green Sandwich Panels(TM) are a complete structural system the can be used for interior/exterior walls, roofs, floors, fences, sound walls, pools, decks, countertops, bathtubs and mantels.
